Where these models come from

Two different sources, and it is worth knowing which is which.

Weeks 4–13 — real embryo scans

• Carnegie Human Embryo Stages 12, 14, 16, 18, 20 and 23, by Kristen Browne, NIAID / NIH 3D.
  Licensed CC BY 4.0 · 3d.nih.gov
Segmented from the Virtual Human Embryo Project.

These are reconstructions of real embryos from the Carnegie Collection — not illustrations, and not generated.

Here they are drawn as golden thread wound over each scan’s own surface. The thread and the light that moves through it are a way of drawing; the shape is the scan’s, untouched, and it never moves.

Weeks 14–40

• Generated models, kept while we look for scan data with a licence that allows this use. No openly licensed whole-body fetal scans exist for this range yet.

Scripture

Quoted from the NIV, except Job 10:11 and Philippians 1:6 (ESV), where the NIV verse is part of a longer sentence.
